WHAT IS DRIVABLE?

Most, if not all, insurance companies require you to take reasonable steps to not cause further damage. They will not cover it if you don’t.

An example, a customer was hit on the front right of their car, drove it home and to work for the rest of the week for (3 days), a total of about 45 miles.  They dropped it off to us the first thing the following Monday.  In the accident the alignment was knocked off bad enough to ruin the front tires in those few miles.  The insurance company would not pay for the tires, not even partial payment.  The tires were about $60.00 each, a total of $120.00, and they absolutely refused payment, but they would have paid $180.00 for towing plus $24.00 a day for the additional rental car (5 days)...BRILLIANT!

If you are rear-ended and the trunk does not seal, they will not cover any water/mold/mildew or rust that results from water getting in your trunk.  The same applies to the interior for broken glass or doors that don’t fit or close right.

So if any of the following conditions exists, have it towed:

  • Tires rubbing on anything

  • Tires that are not all going the same direction

  • Any unusual noises when running or driving

  • Any door that does not open and close right, this applies to the hood/trunk

  • If it is not weather tight

  • If the windshield is cracked

  • If it is leaking any kind of fluid

  • If you do drive it away and it does not drive right, stop in a safe place and call for a tow.

  • Many of these are a safety concerns as well as a repair issue. If in doubt have it towed.
